Glass Polishing Additives

By heating sand in extremely high temperatures measuring to 1700 degrees Celsius or 3090 degree fahrenheit. Sand (mostly made of silicon dioxide) melts into liquid sand which is then cooled rapidly to form what we know as glass. During the cooldown process, glass is shaped into the objects desired via means of a process called glass blowing which involves blowing the glass and turning it around to form shapes.

Glass is a fragile material and requires careful handling to prevent it from breaking, despite that glass is widely used due to its main characteristic; it is transparent and is the ideal material for windows and mirrors etc. and it is very resistant to chemical and heat.

Glass care with glass polishing additives

The transparency of glass is highly depended on the level of maintenance given you want your glass to remain clear and clean, most people have their glass clean with just basic soap and water, simple and efficient in removing dirt from the glass, a sponge for a quick light rub is enough for any harder stains.

To have clear glass on the other is a different ball game, unlike the trick in having it clean with soap and water, scratches on the surfaces cannot be fixed with a little rub. It is here that the application of glass polishing additives comes to play.

What are Glass polishing additives?

They are made of different types of chemicals like cerium oxide and praseodymium oxide with small amounts of calcium oxide, silicon oxide, etc. Glass polishing additives are used in clearing glasses of scratches. Additives are made into polishing pastes to be applied on the surface of the glass and then rubbed gently with a clean cloth; this eliminates scratches and restores the glass to its original state.
